Fair Use to Out of Bundle

vodafone.jpgVodafone (UK) made a surprise announcement yesterday on one of their forums . They are introducing out of bundle charging for all data over 500Mb per month. This created consternation on the forum and many news articles.

It’s a fact that many network operators are starting to struggle to maintain data throughput. I suspect Vodafone’s new T&Cs are the start of a change, for many operators, from ‘fair use’ tariffs to ‘out of bundle’ tariffs.

In the past I have spoken to people who work (analyse traffic) on the networks and they gave me the impression that the majority of the data used is due to broadband dongles as opposed to smartphones. Hence, it’s unfortunate that smartphone users are going to be penalised because there’s no bandwidth due to operators having introduced something (broadband dongles) they didn’t properly plan.
