Charts on the State of the US Wireless Industry

fcc.gifThe US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has released a large report on the state of the US wireless industry. While the statistics are just for the US, I would think Europe and parts of Asia are also undergoing similar trends.

Business Insider has extracted the 28 charts and some conclusions . Some insights…

  • The average price for smartphones has fallen by 50% in 3 years
  • Apple’s iPhone market share has been limited by its one-carrier (AT&T) exclusivity
  • Smartphones approaching half of all handsets sold, already 50% of handset upgrades
  • U.S. smartphone penetration has doubled in two years
  • Mobile data penetration passed 60% last year
  • iPhone uses 5X more data per month as BlackBerry

The chart on phone prices shows how smartphone handset prices are reducing faster than the average phone price. This probably explains why the proportion of smartphones is increasing.
