Mike Rowehl has some observations from a session he moderated at AppNation on "How Do We Grow The App Economy? What’s Working and What’s Next?". Here are two observations I found particularly interesting…
- While mobile advertising is profitable for the ad-networks is isn’t working out well for the advertisers or publishers. For ad-funded apps, "because there are so many more apps out there also running ads, even if you generate a huge amount of views it’s increasingly difficult to break even"
- Online/offline models where mobile is used to add value (a channel) to existing businesses outside mobile are probably more robust and less at risk from platform change.
This second observation ties in well with my thoughts a month ago when I talked about tomorrow’s opportunities.
