Vodafone Betavine
Vodafone Betavine was launched today…
"…a place where developers, students and early adoptors can meet as peers to work together on new concepts and technologies in the mobile and Internet communications space."
The site has been created by Vodafone R&D. I can only assume that Vodafone hope to use the site to help identify new ideas that they can use on the Vodafone network. It’s great to see a network operator encouraging innovation.
Some companies I have worked with have had a hard time partnering with network operators. Network operators tend to only be interested in ideas that can be instantly monetised rather than ideas that might increase customer loyalty and decrease subscriber churn. They also tend to want to see the full working solution rather than helping evolve what might be a great, yet partially implemented, idea. Furthermore, as I previously commented, some network operators have been trying to go it alone which tends to produce limited solutions. The new Betavine site seems to be the start of some new thinking.
