The second of my UIQ ‘Getting Started’ tutorials has just been published on Sony Ericsson Developer World. It covers how to set up your PC for UIQ development.
The development environment is a complex mix of Symbian base SDK, UIQ SDK, IDE, optional manufacturer specific extensions and third party tools. Developers also have a choice of several IDEs that also have peculiarities and limitations. This choice and the complexity of having all the tools run within a particular existing PC environment, is such that it is easy to give up or become frustrated when an initial install might not work. In fact, simple pre and post-installation configuration can solve most problems. Hence, tutorial two gives a developer rather than technical author written guide to setting up your PC.
Next month’s ‘Getting Started’ tutorial will provide a pragmatic view of application integrity and platform security.
