Royalties for Sending MMS?

mobileindustrynewswire.gifThere’s an entertaining piece at Music Industry Newswire. In summary, there’s a new organisation that aims to collect royalties for media sent via MMS.

Aside from the fact that carriers are never going to go with this, the fee paid to a carrier is the cost of running the MMS service, not some royalty fee. If some fee were to be added then MMS would be prohibitively expensive and not used. What about sending non-copyright media via MMS? How do you account for this?

Also, it’s very limited. What about other copy mechanisms such as copying via Bluetooth and via PC.

However, the biggest flaw is that MMS is very limited in what size can be sent and certainly can’t be used to send MP3s and video.

If it were April, I would think this is an April fools joke.
